Every cook receives wood, cast iron, and live fire. From arrival to the championship whistle, here is the day-by-day rundown.
Arrive by noon sharp at Denning Ranch. Settle into the campsite, walk the live fire arena, inspect the wood ricks, and join the orientation around the center pit. Evening closes with an all-hands welcome chuckwagon dinner and orientation briefing.

Morning wood-fire ignition under tight time constraints. Mystery protein and cuts revealed at 08:00 AM. Cooks are judged on coal management, bark texture, and internal temp accuracy. Scorecards locked by dusk.
Elevated complexity and high-stakes elimination round.

The final contenders take position along the ridge. Plating happens exactly at golden hour under judge inspection. Blind tasting, public spectator feast, and crowning of the 2026 Champion under the open sky.

RANCH DISPATCH: Have a specific equipment rig, commercial dietary restriction, or team size question?
There is zero entry fee to apply or compete. Denning Ranch supplies whole primal beef cuts, corded hardwood fuel, water, and dedicated steel cooking rigs. Competitors cover their own personal transit to the ranch and specialized hand tools.
Selected competitors stay in individual canvas wall tents equipped with cots, wool blankets, and power hookups for device charging. Full hot shower trailers and commercial restrooms are situated 80 yards from the competition pit line.
You do not need commercial restaurant ownership, but you must prove competent management of live coals, wind shifts, and large-format whole cuts. Home hearth masters, ranch cooks, and seasoned pit crews are evaluated on demonstrated fire skill.
The cook-off runs rain or shine. In heavy precipitation, heavy-gauge steel burn hoods and cantilevered canvas pavilions deploy over active fire pits. The ability to manage ambient heat under shifting frontier weather is part of the judging criteria.
Personal coolers are permitted at base camp after daily fire management shifts conclude. Intoxication during active coal handling results in immediate disqualification. Due to active heavy stock and open flames, uncredentialed guests are strictly barred from the pit grounds.
Yes. Denning Ranch captures broadcast-grade 4K documentary footage of the entire 4-day challenge. All competitors sign an appearance release granting broadcast rights for seasonal streaming and archival releases upon invitation acceptance.
